Iodosorb Cadexomer Iodine Ointment 3g Powder - Smith & Nephew Iodosorb ointment is a sterile formulation of acute cadexomer iodine. When applied to the wound, it cleans it by absorbing fluids, removing pus and debris and forming a moist gel over the wound surface. As Iodosorb swells in situ the active iodine is released, killing resident micro-organisms in the wound site and changing colour. Iodosorb ointment contains 50% cadexomer iodine and 50% ointment base. Iodosorb changes colour from brown to yellow when the dressing requires changing. Helps promote wound healing and patient comfort. Precautions - should not be used in patients with know or suspected iodine sensitivity, Hashimoto's thyroiditis or prior history of Graves Disease, or in the case of non-toxic nodular goitre.; Patients with a past history of any thyroid disorder are more susceptible to alteration in thyroid metabolism with chronic Iodosorb therapy; Iodine may be absorbed systemically especially when large wounds are treated; In endemic goitre there have been isolated reports of hyperthyroidism associated with Iodosorb; Iodine may potentially interact with lithium, sulphafurazoles and sulphonylureas therefore administration is not recommended; Should not be used pregnant or lactating women ; Adherent crust may form when the dressing is changed with significant frequency. Use Iodosorb Powder for very moist wounds. Sold as 3 g powder in packs of 7 sachets
